A brand new kitchen can cost thousands of pounds. Sometimes it is not possible to rip out your old kitchen and call in your kitchen fitters to bring in your new cabinets. One area of kitchen design that you can try yourself is revamping your cabinets. Perhaps you want to call in your kitchen experts to re-tile your floor or walls, but would rather handle your cabinets yourself. Then, below are some tips for painting your cabinets so that they look like a whole new kitchen.
You can create a completely new look for your kitchen by repainting your doors and replacing door handles. But before you rush out to get a step ladder and start painting, stop. You will need to take down your doors, prepare them, and then give them at least a couple of coats of paint if you want to make a real difference.

Kitchen Design Decorating Ideas : What you will Need
To revamp your cabinets you will need a few simple tools. Make sure you have a screwdriver, a steel tape measure, some old cloths or sheets and newspaper, and a dust mask. Preferably also use safety goggles or glasses as you will be sanding down. You will need some good quality sandpaper too. If you are prepared to put in a lot of hard work, then just sandpaper will suffice; a power sander however will come in very handy.
You will also need a soft cloth, paintbrush, and primer and top coat paint. Before you get started, also choose and buy your new handles and hinges. There is nothing worse than having to put old handles back onto freshly painted cabinets.
Kitchen Design Decorating Ideas : Getting Started
Choose your chosen workspace. This may be outside, or in your garage or workshop. You will need to remove all your cabinet doors and drawer fronts as well as handles and hinges. Take all your door and drawer fronts to your designated work space. If you have not yet bought your handles, ensure you take an old one with you to the hardware shop before you throw them away. You will need same-size fitting handles, as drilling holes creates work and will look ugly.
Next, it’s time to sand down all your cabinet doors and drawer fronts. Do this with protective gear and on an old cloth or newspaper. Here you can use a power sander if you have one. Not all types of cabinet can be sanded; so ensure yours can before you start. Once you have sanded all your cabinets down, you need to get rid of all dust from them as well as from your work area
Finally it is time to paint your cabinets. Firstly with primer and then with your chosen top coat, leaving your primer to dry properly first. Between coats, lightly sand down again to ensure your top coat will be perfectly smooth. Then it’s time to leave your cabinets to dry before you put on new hinges, handles, and hang them all in your new look room.
